Is It Really Mickey Mouse's Birthday?

Every year on November 18th you will see dozens of "Happy Birthday Mickey" posts all over social networking websites. But is it really? Well that all depends on how you look at it. On November 18th 1928 "Steamboat Willie" was released in theaters marking Mickey & Minnie Mouse's first theatrical appearances. However, what a lot of people don't know is that Mickey & Minnie had two animated short films before "Steamboat Willie". They were "Plane Crazy" released on May 15, 1928; and "The Gallopin' Gaucho" finished (but not released until December 30th) in August 1928. That would make November 18th Mickey & Minnie's theatrical birthdays (with Steamboat Willie) but technically May 15th would be their actual birthdays (with Plane Crazy). Just something to pass along to make you look like even more of a geek!
