Even though I'll review this release in my upcoming "Weekly Review", I did just write this short "review" (I use that word loosely) over at Bluray.com in the thread started about the "A Elf's Story" DVD/3DBD combo release being marked down at Target. So in the meantime, I though I would share for anyone interested in grabbing this release from Target for the cheap $4.48 price...
"Grabbed a copy... Watched it last night. It was ok. Nothing special and
more or less felt like a 30min commercial for the product, but again...
It was ok. The animation and 3D was alright as well. Though honesty the
fact that it was in 3D at all was pretty amazing. Hell, the fact that it
was even on BD for such a low budget release was surprising. But what I
think surprised me the most was a making of special feature and a
commentary track. Never would have expected that on a small release like
this. Also I have to give the creators of The Elf On The Shelf credit
for putting this Christmas Special together themselves and not going to a
major studio. It's for that that reason I give the feature some more
leeway and don't judge it too harshly. They went all out and made sure
this release was worth the buy to those interested. With The Elf On The
Shelf growing in popularity each passing year I see the potential for
this to become a major holiday icon right up there with Rudolph (only
created in 1939). If so, this holiday special could become a "classic"
to our kids or even theirs. Just a thought. But with all that being
said... Due to the special being nothing overly amazing and the short
run time, I would say its not worth going over $9.99, even for this
rather impressive low budget 3DBD release. So if you are a Cinematic
Christmas junkie like me it's certainly worth the $4.48 buy at Target."
